How Far Can You Reach?

Remember Monkey Bars when you were a kid?  How about those rings on chains?  And those igloo-shaped bar cages you could crawl all over?

The Bible says walk by faith and not by sight.  It says nobody should build something unless they count the cost, otherwise they could get half-way done and get stalled.  Yeah, that’ll look . . . → Read More: How Far Can You Reach?

How To Tell A Conference

Clever post title…I know.  Well, okay, maybe not that clever.  We just got home from a week-long conference last night — or as Christopher reminded us with, “Good Morning,” it was after midnight this morning.

We’ve been to a lot of conferences in our life together.  Karen and I were in Amway years and years ago, and . . . → Read More: How To Tell A Conference

Work, Pray, Work, Pray, Listen, Obey, Listen, Obey

In life I have to work like it’s up to me, and pray like it’s up to God.  Both are true in ANY area of life, huh?  As a pastor I have the responsibility of leading a flock.  It doesn’t matter if it’s 40 or 40,000, the rules are still the same.  Namely: No matter how . . . → Read More: Work, Pray, Work, Pray, Listen, Obey, Listen, Obey

Order In Transit

I ordered some books on Fasting for a few of my leaders at church.  They are full of great wisdom on everything from How to fast, When to fast, Why to fast…they’re great and will really be of benefit for them and for our church.  I paid for them at Barnes and Noble, and the book . . . → Read More: Order In Transit

What’s On Your Ipod?

Check your Recently Played list. You can’t really delete things off the list in real life, but you can bump some weak tracks down by playing the good ones frequently. That would preach, huh? . . . → Read More: What’s On Your Ipod?

Sermon Titles

I’m finishing up with the 3rd of a 3-part sermon series this weekend.  As I’m working on it here on my laptop I was thinking of what to title this sermon.  I usually give them titles because it’s a basic way to reference them at some point in the future, and it gives it a truth-in-labeling . . . → Read More: Sermon Titles

Here At A Crossroads

You know what? God never promised _________. He did promise a lot of things. And we named our church Promise based on those promises. So instead of hoping to fill in the blanks, I’m going to choose to walk in the path that’s already laid out. . . . → Read More: Here At A Crossroads

Silk Purse From A Sow’s Ear?

Anyone who says they don’t have sin is lying. The Bible says that clearly. It means everybody. Everybody. Not just people who haven’t reached some imaginary place in this life. Everybody. So why would a perfect God trust a perfect plan with a perfect goal (making a silk purse,) to an imperfect bunch of sow’s ears like us!? . . . → Read More: Silk Purse From A Sow’s Ear?

Emergency Preparedness

This morning Karen got a call from our Storage Unit manager.  Their maintenance guy had come across our unit; the lock was gone, the door was hanging open, and the room was empty.  Empty.  All of our stuff was in our storage unit!  Our microphones, speakers, amp, pulpit, video projector and screen, everything!

Karen called me so . . . → Read More: Emergency Preparedness

Tithes (And Another Thing…)

I was thinking about the previous post and I remembered talking with a friend one time about tithes.  This was years ago when we were in Amway, so maybe put that 18 years ago or so.  The leadership (read: diamonds and above,) really did preach God, family, country, free enterprise — at least the organization we . . . → Read More: Tithes (And Another Thing…)
